Zainageer’s Young Volleyball Star Clinches Bronze at Int’l C’ship in China

Sopore: Nasir Aijaz Sofi, a Class 10 student of Ahmad Memorial High Field Scientific School, Dangerpora, has made Jammu and Kashmir proud by securing a bronze medal at the Volleyball Championships 2025 held in China.

The prestigious tournament was organised by the International School Federation (ISF) and witnessed participation from elite school teams representing several countries, including Iran, China and Brazil. Nasir represented Jammu and Kashmir at the international event, showcasing exceptional skill and determination on the court.

Speaking to mediapersons, Nasir expressed gratitude to his school for nurturing his talent and providing him opportunities to excel at higher levels. He acknowledged the support of the school management, teachers and coaching staff, saying their guidance played a crucial role in his journey.

The young sportsperson also credited his family for their constant encouragement, particularly his grandfather Ab Rasheed Sofi and his elder brother, whom he described as his strongest sources of motivation. Reflecting on his progress, Nasir said his rise from school-level competitions to zonal, district, state, national and now international platforms has been both challenging and rewarding.

Nasir has trained for the past three years at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Academy, Jammu, which has significantly contributed to honing his professional skills. He also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of his coaches Rayees Ahmad, Jalal-ud-Din Qadir, Azhar Aziz, Naresh Kumar and Pratik, who have played an instrumental role in his success.

With his sights firmly set on representing India at the senior national level, Nasir said he is determined to work harder and bring further honours to his state and the country in the years ahead.
