Kupwara: Young lot of journalists in north Kashmir’s Kupwara have formed a breakaway association under the banner Young Journalists Association Kupwara (YJAK).

The newly-formed Association has seventeen working journalists as its core members.

In its maiden elections after formation, Wasim Majnoon Mir was elected as Chairman and Ulfat Hussain Malik as President. On the other hand, Murtaza Mushtaq was elected as Vice president, Tahir Ahmad Bhat as General secretary, Towseef Hamdani as Spokesperson and  Javid Ahmad Mir as  Treasurer.

The elected body on the occasion nominated Hilal Ahmad, Faisal Ahmad Mir, Raja Ishaq, Ab Majeed, Sajid Bashir, Nissar Ahmad Mir as executive members.

The Chairman elected Wasim Majnoon Mir hailed the members for holding successful elections of the Association. “Journalists in Kashmir, particularly those from North Kashmir work in a very challenging environment and these challenges can be done away with active support and coordination with each other,” he said as per Alfaaz – The Words.

“This is a really good omen that young working journalists of Kupwara and Handwara have come under a single platform”, Mir said adding that YJAK will be highlighting issues as they happen without taking sides.

“If any member or YJAK office bearer is found in any illegal activities he/she will be self-responsible and will be dismissed from the organisation without any delay.”

Meanwhile several political and non political organisations have congratulated the office bearers of the association.

The YJAK called on incumbent Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ayushi Sudan and among other issues highlighted their demand for setting up of a Press Club in the district. The chair, the association said, has assured that all the issues will be sorted out soon.

Notably, there already are at least three journalist associations (Handwara included), working independently of each other, in the district.
