Srinagar: Team India registered a big win by defeating Afghanistan by eight wickets to consolidate its position in the ongoing World Cup.

Afghanistan after winning the toss got to a steady start, before Bumrah came all guns blazing to get Zadran out on 22, while the aggregate score read 32. The next to go was Gurbaz at the hands of Pandya.

At a time when India looked imminent to wrap up the things, Shahidi and Azmatullah stitched a partnership of 111 runs. However the other failed to captalise the build up and gave their wickets too cheaply, when the Afghanistan looked well set to go over 300. With some brilliant bowling by the Men in Blue, Afghanistan could only reach to 272.

With a fairly good spin attack, Afghanistan was expected to make the things count, however it wasn’t to be as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan pummeled the bowlers. The Rohit-Kishan duo, which failed to make any mark in the last outing against Aussies, gave a 156-run stand to the team. While Kishan scored 47, Rohit scored quickfire 131 off 84 deliveries. Virat Kohli scored unbeaten 55 and Sheyas Iyer 25 to chase down the score with 8 wickets in hand and 15 overs to spare.

This huge win is expected to boost the chances of team India in its campaign ahead.
