Srinagar: Winter has announced its arrival in the Kashmir Valley with an icy chill, as temperatures dipped sharply across the region. Pahalgam recorded the seasonโs coldest night so far at -3.0ยฐC, while Gulmarg followed closely with -2.6ยฐC, the Meteorological Department said.
Kupwara too shivered at -0.7ยฐC, marking a widespread onset of sub-zero conditions that signal the deepening of winter. The meteorological department has cautioned that the cold wave is likely to persist, with night temperatures expected to remain near or below freezing in several parts of the valley.
Residents have been advised to take precautions against the biting cold, particularly the elderly, children, and those with health conditions. Authorities have also cautioned motorists about slippery roads, especially in higher altitudes, urging the use of anti-skid chains and proper winter gear while travelling.
The Meteorological Department has also urged people to stay updated with daily weather forecasts and prepare for further temperature drops as cold winds from the north sweep through the region.
As frost begins to blanket rooftops and meadows, Kashmir braces itself for the long, beautiful, yet challenging, winter ahead.
