Srinagar: A 6.1 magnitude earthquake was felt across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday afternoon, forcing the people to run for safety.
National Center for Seismology taking to microblogging site ‘X’ posted; “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.1, Occurred on 11-01-2024, 14:50:24 IST, Lat: 36.48 & Long: 70.45, Depth: 220 Km, Location: Afghanistan.”
Although the strong tremors caused momentarily panic among the people in many parts in the Himalayan region, there were however no immediate reports of any loss of life or damage to any property as of now.
As per the data from the National Center for Seismology, Kashmir is located in a seismic Zone V, or a Very High-risk Zone (VHRZ).
