Kupwara: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), Kupwara on Thursday organised an Upbhokta Lok Adalat at its office premises, aimed at the expeditious and amicable resolution of consumer disputes.
A total of six cases were referred to the Lok Adalat, of which five cases were taken up for consideration. Two cases were settled on the spot, resulting in an aggregate award of ₹1.50 lakh in favour of the complainants.
The Lok Adalat proceedings were presided over by Peerzada Qousar Hussain, President of the District Consumer Commission, Kupwara, and Nyla Yaseen, Member of the Commission.
The matters settled included complaints filed by Aayeena Ahad and Kulsooma Qadir against National Insurance Company Limited. In these cases, the Commission passed awards of ₹75,000 and ₹74,000 respectively.
The Commission observed that Upbhokta Lok Adalats play a vital role in providing consumers with a cost-effective, speedy, and consensual dispute resolution mechanism, thereby strengthening consumer confidence in the justice delivery system.
