Srinagar: Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has sanctioned approval to enhance the strength of Judges in High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Court, currently, from seventeen to twenty-five.

Meghwal in a communique to incumbent J&K and Ladakh High Court Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan, informed the latter about the matter, referring to the then Chief Justice’s letter dated 31st January, 2022 regarding enhancement in the sanctioned strength of Judges in the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh from 17 to 25.

“The Judge strength of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has been reviewed and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, it has been decided to increase the Judge Strength of the High Court from 17 to 25 Judges, with 19 Permanent Judges and 06 Additional Judges,” Union Law Minister has informed Justice Rabstan.

The enhanced Judge Strength of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, as per the communique, a copy of which lies with Alfaaz – The Words, will be divided in the ratio of 66% and 33% between Bar and Service. “Therefore, the share of members of Bar and Service would be 17 and 08 respectively. The revised Judge strength will be effective from 25.10.2024.”

“The proposals for filling up the vacant posts of Judges may kindly be sent at the earliest.”

“May I request you that while sending the proposal for appointment of Judges in the High Court, appropriate representation to members of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Minorities and Women may be kept in view,” the communique reads further.
