Srinagar: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday proposed an allocation of ₹43,290.29 crore for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the Union Budget for 2026-27, reflecting an increase of nearly ₹2,000 crore over the current financial year.
The proposed allocation comprises transfers from the Union government amounting to ₹43,290.29 crore for the next fiscal.
For the ongoing financial year, Jammu and Kashmir’s assistance has been revised upward to ₹41,340 crore from the earlier budget estimate of ₹41,000.07 crore, indicating an increase of ₹340 crore.
The 2026-27 proposal includes ₹42,650 crore as central assistance to bridge the resource gap of the Union Territory. Additionally, ₹279 crore has been earmarked as grants towards the Union Territory Disaster Response Fund, ₹259 crore as equity support for the Jhelum-Tawi Flood Recovery Project, and ₹101 crore to support capital expenditure in Jammu and Kashmir.
