Srinagar: An unexploded artillery shell, suspected to be leftover from Operation Sindoor, was detected in the upper reaches of Garkote village in Uri on Thursday.
News agency GNS cited sources as saying that the shell was spotted by the Armyโs 12 Grenadiers, who informed Police Station Uri. “Subsequently, a joint team comprising personnel from PS Uri and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of District Police Lines (DPL) Baramulla rushed to the spot and coordinated with the Army unit.”
The unexploded shell, the sources said, was safely disposed of in accordance with standard operating procedures.
“The area was secured as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of local residents while the disposal operation was carried out,” they added. (GNS)
