Two Day Valley Urocon-3 Wraps Up at GMC Srinagar; National, International Faculty Attend Conference

Srinagar: The Department of Urology, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, in partnership with leading national and international experts, successfully hosted the third edition of Valley Urocon, a two-day international urology conference featuring high-end workshops, CME sessions, and live surgical demonstrations.

More than 300 delegates participated in the event, marking it as one of the most prominent academic gatherings for the urology fraternity in Jammu & Kashmir.

The conference, as per Alfaaz – The Words, opened with a series of lectures delivered by distinguished national faculty, addressing advanced topics such as laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, complex renal surgeries, and evolving treatment modalities for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, inaugurated the proceedings and delivered the keynote address.

โ€œIt is immensely encouraging to witness a conference of this academic calibre being hosted in Jammu & Kashmir. Valley Urocon 3 demonstrates our commitment to strengthening medical education, enhancing surgical expertise, and expanding access to advanced healthcare across the Union Territory,โ€ he said.

Shah added that such initiatives bolster the regionโ€™s potential to emerge as a hub for medical innovation and health tourism.

Day two of the conference featured live surgical demonstrations aligned with this yearโ€™s theme, โ€˜Advancing Urology Through Innovationโ€™. Twelve advanced 3D laparoscopic procedures were performed, including radical prostatectomy, radical nephrectomy, pyeloplasty, and minimally invasive BPH treatments such as Rezum and Urolift.

Chief Patron of the conference and Principal & Dean GMC Srinagar, Prof. Iffat Hassan Shah, commended the organisers for delivering an academically rich event.

โ€œValley Urocon 3 has set a new benchmark for medical education in the region. The combination of comprehensive academic sessions and world-class live surgical workshops underscores our institutionโ€™s commitment to excellence in clinical training and patient care,โ€ she said.

Organising Chairman and Head, Department of Urology, Prof. Syed Sajjad Nazir, noted that the event showcased the collective strength of the urological community. โ€œThe success of this conference reflects the dedication of our faculty and our continued collaboration with national and international experts.

Demonstrating cutting-edge 3D laparoscopic procedures reinforces our commitment to innovation and advanced surgical practice,โ€ he said.

Associate Professor Dr. Tanveer Iqbal expressed gratitude to all faculty members, delegates, and supporting teams, noting that their involvement and enthusiasm were central to the eventโ€™s success.

The conference witnessed participation from Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Administrator GMC and Associated Hospitals; senior faculty including Dr. Rubeena Shaheen, Medical Superintendent; and renowned academicians such as Prof. K. Parikh, Prof. S. K. Paul, Prof. Anup Kumar, Prof. Elias Sharma, Prof. Uttem Mette, Prof. Arif Hamid, Prof. M. Salim Wani, Prof. Chander Mohan Verdi, Dr. Abhishek Singh, Dr. Rahul Gupta, Dr. Retish Mehta, Dr. Rohit, among others.
