New Delhi: 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Tahawwur Rana, who was extradited from the US and was put on a special flight to India on Wednesday, will be kept in the Tihar central prison, various media outlets reported on Wednesday.
He will undergo a trial at a special NIA court in Delhi.
The special flight carrying Rana, who is accompanied by a special team of intelligence and investigative officials, left at around 7:10 pm India time on Wednesday and is expected to land on Thursday afternoon.
Once Rana lands in Delhi, he will be officially arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and will be lodged at the Tihar jail, where all the preparations for his stay have been completed.
Heightened security has been put in place around the central prison in view of Rana’s extradition.
Rana will undergo a trial at a special NIA court in Delhi. Since the case will now be heard in Delhi, he will not be sent to Mumbai.
The extradition operation is being closely overseen by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, alongside senior officials from the NIA and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
