Srinagar: Dr. Ghulam Nabi Lone, State Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir, Indian National Congress (INC), has expressed his deep anguish over the losses incurred by people, especially in Kupwara, in the aftermath of recent heavy rains.
Dr. Lone, a known General Surgeon from North Kashmir, in a statement issued here said, the incessant rains have wreaked havoc to the residential property even as substantially damaging standing crops and orchards in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, especially in district Kupwara.
“Have visited many areas in Kupwara since yesterday where I have found poignant scenes with residential properties including residential houses and other properties lying in ruins,” Dr. Lone said.
Urging the Lieutenant Governor and respective District administrations to assess the losses incurred by people, Dr. Lone fervently appealed for grant of a comprehensive compensation package to the affected families. “This is the time for the authorities to stand and deliver and as such prioritise the assessment of affected areas followed by grant of an adequate and comprehensive compensation package,” Dr. Lone said.
“Taking into consideration the susceptibility of the areas lying in proximity to different water bodies, it is expected that the authorities would go for remedial measures and construct fences, strong enough to withstand the heavy flow of water, as to avoid recurrence of such occurrences in future,” added the surgeon turned politician.
