Shopian: To assess the progress and status of cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, on Friday chaired a detailed crime review meeting at the District Police Office (DPO) Shopian.
The meeting was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Shopian, Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters Shopian, SDPO Imam Sahib, DySP DAR Shopian, and all Station House Officers (SHOs) and In-Charges of Police Posts across the district.
During the meeting, the SSP conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing investigations, case disposal rates, and challenges faced during prosecution in both UAPA and NDPS-related cases. He underscored the importance of professionalism and diligence in investigations, timely submission of charge sheets, and continuous follow-up of trials to ensure effective conviction rates.
Addressing the issue of drug trafficking, SSP Choudhary termed it a serious social menace with far-reaching consequences. He directed officers to intensify anti-narcotics operations, identify and take strict action against key peddlers and suppliers, and strengthen inter-agency coordination to dismantle the broader drug network operating in the region.
While reviewing UAPA cases, the SSP stressed the need for meticulous evidence collection, adherence to legal protocols, and close coordination with intelligence units to build watertight cases against individuals involved in unlawful and subversive activities.
He further instructed all field officers to maintain proper documentation, strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and make effective use of modern investigative tools and technologies to enhance the quality of investigations and ensure transparency and accountability in policing.
