Srinagar: On the floor of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday, AIP Senior Leader and MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed strongly condemned the recent killings of innocent civilians in terror attack at Pahalgam, demanding immediate justice for the victims and their families. He emphasized that these brutal acts of violence are an attack on the peace and harmony the region strives to uphold.

Further, Sheikh Khursheed raised his voice on behalf of the grieving families of the civilians killed in Kandi Kupwara and Ajas Bandipora, demanding a thorough enquiry and justice for the heinous acts committed against the people. “The loss of innocent lives is a stark reminder of the instability and fear that continues to plague our region,” he said, as per a statement issued to Alfaaz – The Words.

In light of the growing crisis, Sheikh Khursheed called for the immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that it is essential for the people to regain their rights and dignity. “The political and social unrest faced by our people will not be alleviated until our region is granted the autonomy it deserves. The restoration of statehood is a step towards securing the future of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

During his speech, Sheikh Khursheed also highlighted the troubling issue of the blasting of houses as a form of collective punishment. He said that such practices not only punish individuals but harm entire communities, further deepening societal divisions. He demanded that such actions must be stopped and that the government should seek alternative solutions that do not infringe upon the rights of innocent citizens.

Additionally, Sheikh Khursheed addressed the alarming incident at Lal Chowk, where some miscreants insulted Islam, a revered religion of peace. “Such acts of communal hatred have no place in our society,” he said, demanding that those responsible be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Lastly, he expressed serious concern over the increasing targeting of Kashmiri students. Referring to the recent violence and discrimination faced by Kashmiri students outside the region, Sheikh Khursheed said, “Our youth, especially those pursuing education, should not be subjected to harassment and violence.” He urged the authorities to take immediate action to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students and to punish those responsible for these attacks.

Sheikh Khursheed further said, “We, as representatives of the people, have a duty to safeguard the rights and welfare of our citizens. I remain committed to raising the voice of Langate in the Assembly and will continue to fight for justice, peace and the restoration of our region’s rightful statehood.”
