Baramulla: Former BDC Chairman Langate and Senior AIP Leader Showket Pandit on Monday urged the government to immediately set up fully equipped cardiac labs at Government Medical Colleges (GMC) in Handwara and Baramulla.

In a media statement, Pandit said that the absence of cardiac care facilities in these districts was risking lives, as patients often take two to three hours to reach Srinagar. “Many patients in critical condition don’t survive the journey. We need immediate intervention closer to home,” he said.

He emphasized that public hospitals must be able to handle emergency heart procedures such as pacemaker implantation and advanced cardiac care. “People cannot rely on expensive private hospitals in times of emergency,” he said.

Pandit said several people have died in recent years due to delays in treatment and called on the administration to prioritize setting up fully functional cardiac laboratories in both GMC Handwara and GMC Baramulla without further delay.

“Timely treatment can save lives. These labs must have all necessary equipment and trained staff to respond to heart-related emergencies,” he added.
