Srinagar: With the 40-day harshest winter, known in local parlance as Chillai Kalaan, still some ten days away, the Jammu and Kashmir, especially Valley, is experiencing severe chill as night temperatures have already gone several notches down.
Meteorological (MeT) Centre in a communique revealed that Srinagar recorded a low of -5.4°C, while Qazigund dropped to -6.4°C.
Pahalgam saw -8.4°C, Kupwara -4.5°C, Kokernag -4.0°C, Konibal -7.0°C, and Gulmarg -9.0°C, it said.
The Jammu city on the other hand saw 5.4°C, Banihal -2.2°C, and Batote 1.0°C, Kishtwar 1.5°C and Rajouri -1.0°C.
Leh also saw colder condition with temperatures of -13.2°C and Kargil -12.4°C.
