Srinagar: The Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Kashmir, has issued a public notice over widespread violations of traffic norms by two-wheeler riders across the Kashmir Division and directing defaulters to clear all pending challans within seven days.

The notice states that several two-wheelers registered in different districts of the Kashmir Division are being operated on public roads in contravention of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, particularly with riders and pillion riders failing to wear protective headgear and committing other traffic violations. The RTO noted that such acts not only amount to a breach of statutory provisions but also pose a serious threat to road safety and public order, endangering life and property.

According to the notice, challans have already been issued against the defaulting vehicle owners and operators, and many of these cases are pending disposal. All concerned vehicle owners and operators have been directed to clear the outstanding challans within seven days from the date of publication of the notice.

The RTO has warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period will invite stringent action under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, including imposition of penalties, suspension of driving and vehicle-related documents, and seizure of vehicles, without any further notice.
