Srinagar: With grace and admiration, the Education Department on Monday marked the retirement of one of its most distinguished figures Nazir Quraishi, popular by his pen name Nazir Ibn Shahbaz.
A celebrated teacher, revered orator, and accomplished poet, Nazir Ahmad has concluded his long and illustrious career, leaving behind not just a legacy, but an entire institution in himself.
The son of the iconic Kashmiri poet Shahbaz Sahib, often hailed as the Iqbal of Kashmir, Nazir Quraishi carried forward his father’s literary spirit while carving his own mark in the world of education and public speaking. Over the years, he emerged as a cultural force, commanding audiences with his articulate speeches and poetic finesse, while remaining deeply rooted in his commitment to teaching.
Quoting the immortal lines, “Hazaron Saal Nargis Apni Benoori Pe Roti Hai, Baddi Mushkil Se Hota Hai Chaman Mein Deedawar Paida”, colleagues and admirers reflected on the rarity of Nazir Sahib’s stature, a man whose presence elevated the very essence of the department.
A senior colleague noted, “Nazir Sahib was not just a teacher, he was a movement, his powerful voice put our district on the intellectual map. He represented the department at numerous platforms with unmatched eloquence, always making us proud.”
While the Education Department celebrates his honorable exit with gratitude, it also acknowledges the void his retirement brings. Yet, the hope remains that Nazir Ahmad’s post-retirement chapter will continue to inspire, guide, and enrich the educational and cultural fabric of the region.
The entire fraternity has in the meantime extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for a fulfilling, peaceful, and creative life ahead.
