Refund Advance Booking Amounts in Wake of Prevailing Circumstances, J&K Govt Directs Tourism Sector Associations

29/04/2025

Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir government has directed hoteliers, travel agents, houseboat owners, and other tourism stakeholders to refund advance booking amounts and waive cancellation fees for tourists affected by the prevailing circumstances in the region.

The directive, issued by the Office of the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, mandates compliance from 15 key associations, including the Kashmir Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHARA), and Travel Agents Society of Kashmir (TASK). The order follows an earlier circular from the Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir, urging immediate refunds to mitigate disruptions faced by tourists.

Citing “present circumstances”, the government emphasized the need for tourism operators to prioritize tourist welfare. The circular specifically applies to hotels, guesthouses, houseboats, and travel agencies, ensuring tourists receive full reimbursement without incurring cancellation penalties.
