Srinagar: Ramhall forest range in sync with worldwide celebrations, marked the World Environment Day on Wednesday, with great enthusiasm.
The forest range Ramhall organised an event at Block Officer’s Hut Hangnikoot Tarathpora.
The event commenced with an address by DFO Kahmil Division Dr. Faisal Farooq, followed by speeches by Range Officer Ramhall Javid Ah Chopan, Block Forest Officer Mushtaq Ahmed Wani, BO Asgar Ali & BO Panzgam. The speakers in their speeches shed light on the purpose of celebration of the day and unanimously urged the people to play their role to ensure a clean environment for the larger benefit of mankind.
A group of selected students alongside teachers and forest department officials later on planted saplings around Block Officer’s hut.
A total of 30 saplings of various varieties of plants including deodar, rose, snowball, Japanese Banana, Jiniya and Calendula were planted which in due course of time are expected to add to the existing flora.
Thereafter 50 students and Forest department team took a pledge to inculcate long-term environment friendly habits and continuously participate in taking up environmental lifestyle.
Subsequently a speech and drawing competition was conducted wherein students from nearby school also participated and comprehensively covered the theme of World Environment Day 2024 – Beat Plastic Pollution – and its various associated aspects.
The participating students were assessed and rewarded by the jury as per merit obtained by them.
