Rajouri Mysterious Deaths: Admin Throws Out of Bounds Bawli Spring for Public As Water Source Tests ‘Positive for Pesticides/Insecticide’

19/01/2025

Srinagar: Administration in Kotranka on Sunday barred local population of Budhal in Rajouri from consuming water from Bawli spring after the source tested ‘positive for some pesticide/insecticide’. The ADM Kotranka ordered for deployment of security around the spring as to prevent all sorts of use of water.

Underlining that the samples of water taken from the spring (Bawli) of village Badhal have been tested positive for some pesticides/insecticide, the ADM said that Bawli has been blocked by PHE (Jal Shakti) Division Rajouri and sealed by the Magistrate concerned.

“There is an apprehension that the tribal population of the village may collect the flowing water of this spring stealthily,” reads the directive, adding, “Tehsildar Khawas shall ensure that no villager must use the water from this spring in any case.”

“SHO Police Station Kandi is hereby directed to depute 02 to 03 Security Personnel round the clock at this Bawli so that the use of water of the said spring/Bawli may be stopped completely,” the order, a copy of which lies with Alfaaz – The Words, reads.

“The matter is most urgent in the interest of public health and safety,” reads the order.

Pertinent to mention here that at least seventeen locals of Budhal, especially those of young age, have fallen victims to some mysterious disease even as the J&K government and Central government collectively make efforts to ascertain the cause of the deaths.
