Public Welfare Trust Dorusa Lolab Commemorates World No Tobacco Day

Kupwara: Public Welfare Trust Dorusa Lolab organized a significant event to mark World No Tobacco Day, aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco, smoking, and chewable tobacco products. The programme, originally scheduled for May 31, was postponed to June 1 due to unfavorable weather conditions.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students of Darul Uloom Hadi Alam, Dorusa, alongside several senior citizens, including Abdul Majeed Mir and Abdul Jahangir Mir, both retired lecturers from the School Education Department. Their presence underscored the community’s commitment to combating the tobacco epidemic.

A key highlight of the day was an awareness rally, where participants took to the streets to educate the public on the health risks associated with tobacco use. The rally aimed to inform residents about the dangers of smoking and smokeless tobacco products, emphasizing the importance of a tobacco-free lifestyle.

The Public Welfare Trust Dorusa Lolab, a non-governmental, non-profit organization, has been actively serving the community since 2021. The trust is dedicated to supporting underprivileged sections of society by facilitating marriages for poor girls, providing educational assistance in to needy students, and helping impoverished individuals and patients meet their daily needs.
Chairman public welfare trust,Hafiz Sarfaraz Ahmed and other members, volunteers of the trust were also present on this occasion.

This initiative aligns with the global objectives of World No Tobacco Day, established by the World Health Organization in 1987 to highlight the preventable health risks and deaths caused by tobacco use. The trust’s efforts reflect a broader commitment to public health and social welfare in the region.
