Prominent Social-cum-Political Activist Sofi Irfan Appeals CM Omar Abdullah for Macadamization of Sopore-Kupwara Highway

Handwara: Prominent social and political activist Sofi Irfan Mohiuddin has written a letter to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for intervention to macadamise Sopore-Kupwara highway, especially Sopore to Wadura stretch.

Irfan in his letter, a copy of which lies with Alfaaz – The Words, has highlighted the dilapidated condition of the Sopore-Kupwara highway, which he maintains serves as a lifeline for nearly fifteen lakh people.

“This road is not only crucial for day-to-day travel but also vital for thousands of school-going children, patients, traders, and government employees commuting daily between Kupwara and Sopore,” reads the letter, adding, “Unfortunately, the stretch from Sopore to Wadura is in a severely dilapidated state, causing immense distress and physical discomfort to travelers, and it has remained neglected for several years despite repeated local pleas.”

“This section is reportedly under the jurisdiction of the R&B Division Sopore, but no visible action has been taken. We believe even your esteemed office may not have been fully apprised of the suffering faced by the common people due to this ignored infrastructure.”

“Therefore, we earnestly request your honorable self to kindly direct the concerned authorities, particularly the R&B Department Sopore, to immediately undertake macadamization and complete restoration of the Sopore–Wadura stretch of the highway. This long-standing issue is not only a matter of infrastructure but a humanitarian concern and an absolute public demand,” reads the letter.

“Your timely intervention will greatly relieve lakhs of people from unnecessary hardship and will reinforce the public’s trust in responsive governance,” the letter concludes.
