Prominent Islamic Scholar Sofi Abdur Rahman Passes Away, Minhaj-ul-Quran Int’l India Profoundly Condoles Demise

Srinagar: Prominent Islamic scholar and former cleric Jamia Qamar Shah Sahib Saloora Ganderbal, Sofi Abdur Rahman left for heavenly abode on Wednesday.

As learnt, Sofi a known Islamic scholar, was bed-ridden due to protracted illness.

The rasm-e-chaharum to the departed soul is scheduled to be held on Saturday at his ancestral graveyard at Reshipora Saloora in Ganderbal.

Meanwhile, Minhaj-ul-Quran International, India, has profoundly condoled the demise of the Sofi, among the lot of founding members in Jammu and Kashmir.

“It is with the heaviest hearts and profound sorrow that we share the news of the passing away of our esteemed colleague and mentor, Sofi Abdur Rahman Sahab. Sofi Sahab’s presence was foundational to Minhaj-ul-Quran International India, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, where he played a pivotal role as one of the founding members. His departure has left us all reeling in desolation,” reads a condolence letter to the family, a copy of which lies with Alfaaz-The Words.

“Beyond his organisational contributions, Sofi Sahab was a personality of spiritual guidance, known for his Sufi teachings that ignited love in the hearts of many. His wisdom and dedication to the principles of MQI have left an enduring impact on our community.”

“During this time of deep mourning, we stand in solidarity with Sofi Sahab’s family, especially his sons Khursheed Ahmad Sofi and Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Sofi, as well as the entire MQI Jammu and Kashmir. Please know that our support is unwavering and we are here to assist in any way possible,” reads the letter.

“May the memories and teachings of Sofi Sahab continue to illuminate and uplift his family and our Minhaj family,” the letter further reads.

Sofi is also maternal grandfather of leading national news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) Kashmir Correspondent Sheikh Suhail.
