Srinagar: A proclaimed offender accused of involvement in a multi-million smuggling case, carrying a bounty of five lac, has been arrested in north Kashmir’s Handwara, a statement reads.
“In a major breakthrough, Police Handwara, in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), successfully apprehended proclaimed offender Muneer Ahmad Banday, son of Gh. Rasool Banday, a resident of Banday Mohalla Handwara who was carrying a cash reward of half a million,” reads the statement, as per Alfaaz – The Words.
The accused, the statement reads, had been evading arrest since June 2020 in connection with Case No. 03/2020 U/S 8/21, 17, 18, 20 UAPA, 120-B, 121 IPC.
“Muneer Ahmad Banday was involved in a multi-million drug smuggling case, which had significant implications for funding illegal activities,” reads the statement, adding, “His arrest marks a major success for Police Handwara and other security agencies in the fight against organized crime and narco-terrorism.”
“The operation underscores the commitment of the Police and NIA to bring offenders to justice and dismantle networks involved in such unlawful activities. Further investigation into the case is ongoing,” concludes the statement.
