Lalpora (Kupwara): Kupwara Police in Lalpora in a major breakthrough solved a gold theft case by recovering stolen gold items worth over eleven lakhs from two accused persons.
“On receiving a written complaint from one Fatima Begum, wife of Shahzad Ahmad and Shahnaza Ahmad, daughter of Ghulam Ahmad Mir, residents of Lalpora, alleging therein that during evening hours, some unidentified individuals broke in and fled away with gold items worth around ten lac rupees and almost 1.5 lac respectively,” said a police official.
“A case vide FIR number 23/2025 under sections 331 (4), 305 of BNSS, was registered and investigation set in motion,” said the official, adding, “during the investigation process, several suspects were taken into custody for questioning.”
“Upon persistent questioning, two accused, identified as Irshad Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Nabi Wani and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Bhat, both residents of Lapora Lolab, confessed to the crime,” the official said adding, “both the accused were formally booked for further proceedings.”
The recovered gold items from the duo, as per the official, included; 10 Gold Rings, 02 Gold Bangles, 04 Gold Biscuits (pound type) and 01 Gold Chain with Pendant.
“More investigations are underway to recover the remaining items and examine any additional involvement,” added the official.
