Srinagar: An officer from Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police 6th Battalion was on Sunday suspended over ‘violation of Model Code of Conduct’ in Poonch.
The suspended officer, Sergeant Mukhtar Ahmad was suspended over allegations for attending a political programme organized by a candidate of the Indian National Congress in Surankote on August 24, 2024.
A letter written by the ARO to Surankote, reportedly states that, ‘the officer’s presence in the political meeting was an open and blatant violation of the MCC and the Government Employees Conduct Rules of 1971.’
“The photos taken during the event showed Sgt. Ahmad sitting among the audience and leading, following which the ARO had recommended stringent action,” the suspension letter reads.
Consequently, the order reads that Sergeant Ahmad has been suspended with immediate effect. “He is directed to return all government-issued items, including the uniform and arms, to the unit store. He will draw subsistence allowance as per rules during the suspension.”
“A departmental inquiry has been initiated, which Deputy Superintendent Mohammad Azeem has been directed to conduct. The findings will be sent for further action,” the letter reads.
