Police Conduct Raids Across Kashmir; JeI Links Under Scanner

Srinagar: Police on Thursday launched a series of coordinated raids across Kashmir, targeting multiple locations in Handwara, Shopian, Anantnag, Pulwama, Srinagar, Baramulla and Kulgam as part of a wider crackdown on suspected unlawful activities and alleged links with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).

In Handwara, police carried out a search at the Jamia Islamia Institute, Waripora, acting on credible information regarding suspected activities. Several electronic devices were seized and sent for forensic examination to verify their usage and determine any possible connections with proscribed organisations.

In Shopian, a major multi-location operation was launched early in the morning. Police teams simultaneously searched several premises believed to have links with individuals associated with the banned JeI network. Senior officers supervised the operation, which focused on suspected financial, logistical or organisational support channels.

In Anantnag, police conducted extensive searches at residential houses and other locations linked to JeI members and their associates. Officials said the action is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle any support structures that may enable the functioning of banned networks.

Simultaneous verification drives and searches were also conducted in Pulwama, Srinagar, Baramulla and Kulgam, where police teams questioned several individuals and examined documents and digital devices as part of routine investigative procedures.

Officials emphasised that all operations were conducted strictly within the legal framework and under proper supervision. They added that the Valley-wide crackdown aims to prevent regrouping of banned outfits, strengthen surveillance mechanisms and ensure full enforcement of the UAPA ban.

Police have urged the public to cooperate with ongoing investigations and report any suspicious activity. Further details are expected as the probes progress.
