Handwara: In its ongoing action against drug trafficking, Handwara Police have apprehended an accused under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 (PIT NDPS).
Identifying the accused as Manzoor Ahmad Shah, son of Saif Ud Deen Shah from Gund Moomin, the Police in a statement issued to Alfaaz – The Words, described Shah, a key figure in a drug trafficking syndicate, who has been involved in facilitating substance abuse among the youth.
He has been implicated in several criminal cases, including: FIR No. 266/2020 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Kupwara, and FIR No. 15/2024 under Sections 8/20, 29 of the NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Villgam.
“Despite previous legal actions, Shah continued his unlawful activities, prompting authorities to initiate detention proceedings under the PIT NDPS Act. A detention warrant was issued and executed, and Shah was taken into custody for further investigation,” the statement reads.
“Handwara Police remain steadfast in their commitment to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the region. The police have emphasized that strict actions will continue against individuals involved in such activities, with the aim of safeguarding the youth and promoting a drug-free society,” reads the statement further.
