Peoples’ Conference B’la LS Seat Candidate Sajad Lone Served Show-cause-notice Over Uploading of Promotional Video Clip ‘Sans Pre-certification from District MCMC’

Srinagar: The Nodal Officer, Model Code of Conduct, Kupwara on Friday issued a show-cause-notice to Peoples’ Conference Baramulla Lok Sabha seat candidate Sajad Gani Lone for uploading of a promotional video clip of his ‘X’ handle without pre-certification from District MCMC.

The Nodal Officer remarked that his office vide order no. DEOK/2024/1113-16 dated 26/02/2024 constituted the District Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) for previewing, scrutinizing and verifying all the advertisements of individual contesting candidates of political parties before they are inserted in the electronic, print media during election period to keep a check on the cases of paid news, requiring the contesting candidates of all political parties to ensure pre certification of political advertisements from the above constituted District Level MCMC as per the instructions enumerated under the Model Code of Conduct and subsequent order issued by this office vide no. DEOK/2024/1455, dated 19-03-2024.

“…Nodal Officer MCMC vide letter no, MCMC/K/2024/219-22, DATED 10-05-2024 reported violation of aforementioned instructions on the part of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference regarding upload of promotional video clip on the twitter handle of @sajadlone with caption “amazing lyrics by my own very young and talented Ishfaq Ahmad of Tarathpora assisted by dynamic Bilal of Aloosa” with the duration of 7 minutes and 10 seconds without pre certification/prior clearance from District MCMC,” reads the show-cause-notice.

Underscoring that the this (act) tantamount to the clear violation of Model Code of Conduct on the part of Jammu and Kashmir People’s conference, the Nodal Officer said that in backdrop of the matter Sajad Gani Lone – candidate of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference for 01- Baramulla PC, is hereby put on notice to explain as to why such violation has been made at your end.

“The response must reach this office within one day, failing which the matter will be reported to the office of Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar for appropriate action under rules,” further reads the notice.
