Handwara: Peoples’ Democratic Party senior leader Irfan Mohiuddin Sofi on Thursday held a workers’ meeting at his Handwara residence.
The meeting saw participation from a sizable number of workers and well-wishers of Peoples’ Democratic Party.
On the occasion, the participants voters expressed their deep anguish and disappointment over the denial of mandate to the senior party leader from Handwara segment, who they said has been the face of Mehbooba Mufti led PDP for the last so many years.
Sofi took over as PDP’s main face in Handwara after the demise of his father and Cabinet Minister and senior PDP leader Ghulam Mohiuddin Sofi.
The workers and well-wishers present on the occasion said that they are deeply hurt over the party decision to endow mandate to a ‘less known face’ Mir Azad Parwaz.
“The party should have considered the opinion of workers on ground before making such an important decision,” said a party worker.
Sofi appealed the supporters not to lose heart and support the party and the contesting candidate vehemently. “It is time that we stand united and support the contesting candidate,” he said, adding, “Let us wait and watch for the decision of the party leadership.”
