Baramulla: In a show of strength, Peoples’ Conference organized a major public rally in Showkat Ali Stadium at Khawaja Bagh here on Thursday. The event interestingly was joined by Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari to express his support to the ally – ahead of the scheduled polling on May 20.

Claimed by the Peoples’ Conference as the biggest rally in North Kashmir since August 2019 developments’, the major political figures attending the event included Imran Raza Ansari, Khurshid Alam and Nizam-ud-Din Bhat.

Addressing the gathering at the event, Apni Party’s SM Altaf Bukhari urged the participants at the event to vote en-masse for ‘Apple’ (symbol of PC) and his younger brother (Sajad Lone) on May 20. “Victory is ours’”, Bukhari said, adding, “It is a wave for change, a wave of truth and defeat of falsehood.

“Your presence here is an answer to those people who would see Kashmir as their fiefdom,” Bukhari said.

“I want it to convey to you we were one and we are one and will collectively answer our political rivals,” said Bukhari while holding the hand of his ally Sajad Lone.

In his address, Peoples’ Conference President and Baramulla seat candidate Sajad Lone said that he sees the outpouring of people ‘a result of June 4’.

Asking the people to give it a thought before casting their vote for National Conference, Sajad Lone alleged the National Conference of doing nothing while in power for several decades even as having some nine parliamentary members so far.

“The father (Dr. Farooq Abdullah) and son (Omar Abdullah) are on a rampage to abuse me merely for their vote bank.”

The event is likely to come as a major impetus to the Peoples’ Conference to consolidate its vote bank ahead of the polling on May 20, against JKNC’s Omar Abdullah, AIP’s Er. Rasheed, PDP’s Mohammad Fayaz Mir among a total of twenty-three contestants.
