Srinagar: A militant has been killed in an overnight gunfight with security forces in forests of Lolab area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara.
As learnt by Alfaaz – The Words, security forces neutralised a militant after an encounter broke out in Diver Anderbugh forest area on intervening Tuesday and Wednesday night.
The security forces which included army’s 28 RR, JK Police and Military Intelligence wing, launched a joint operation after receiving an input about presence of militants in the forest area. During the intensification of operation, militants opened fire on the security forces, resulting in the breaking out of the encounter.
The identity of the slain militant remains unascertained as of now.
Intermittent exchange of gunfire is going on, when this report was being filed.
Meanwhile Army’s Chinar Corps, stationed here at Badami Bagh cantonment, taking to micro logging site ‘X’ wrote; “OP MARGI, #Kupwara: On 05 Nov 24, based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation was launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice in general area Margi, Lolab, #Kupwara. Contact was established and firefight ensued.”
“Operation is in progress,” the post reads further.
