Srinagar: In a worrying development, the month of October has remained deficient of precipitation by seventy-four percent in Jammu and Kashmir and eighty-nine percent in Ladakh – hinting at fast-changing weather patterns in the Himalayan region.
According to a report by independent weather forecaster, Faizan Arif (Kashmir Weather), as per Alfaaz – The Words, the month of October against a normal rainfall of 33.1 mm, only 8.7 mm.
South Kashmir, as per the report, recorded below normal rainfall in the range of -95 to -100%.
Vis-a-vis Central Kashmir, the range fell -85% to -91% and for Bandipora, Baramulla and Kupwara it remained -90%, -91%, and -57% respectively.
Doda, Jammu, & Kathua on the other hand recorded rainfall deficits in the range -32% to -45%.
“Other districts, except Samba, recorded deficit figures between -50% & -97%. Samba was the only district that received above normal rainfall at +250%.”
Meanwhile, Kargil, the report says, recorded a rainfall deficit of -100%, while Leh recorded it at -88%. The overall deficit stood at -89% in the UT.
Regarding the forecast, the independent weatherman said that complete dry weather is expected during the next 10 days. “Further fall in water levels of rivers & streams is expected,” he added.
