Srinagar: Hours after Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdhi flagged the incident involving rescue of two trekkers from Zabarwan forests in Srinagar during an anti-militant operation and subsequent laying of emphasis to seek prior permission to trek in remote or sensitive areas, District Police Kupwara on Monday mandated prior permission the trek in higher reaches of the north Kashmir district.
“District Police Kupwara has issued an advisory to all tourists, visitors, and adventure enthusiasts planning to trek in the higher reaches of the district, urging them to obtain mandatory permission from the District Police before venturing into these areas,” said a Police Spokesperson as per Alfaaz – The Words.
“This measure is essential for maintaining safety and security amid sensitive and challenging regional conditions.”
“The District Police, prioritizing public safety, advises all visitors to strictly adhere to this protocol to ensure their protection,” the advisory reads.
Earlier in the day, IGP Birdhi said that, “trekkers and adventure enthusiasts should inform the nearest police station about their travel plans and expected routes, especially in areas where there could be security operations. This protocol ensures we can act swiftly to ensure safety if unexpected incidents occur,” the IGP Kashmir said.
The directions come in the backdrop of an anti-militant operation in Zabarwan hills, leaving two trekkers in the area in a precarious condition, before one of them dialled 100 (Emergency Number) to inform Police to seek immediate help. Both the trekkers were luckily saved.
