Kupwara: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kupwara on Thursday detained a notorious drug peddler in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district under stringent PTI DDPS Act.
“Continuing its efforts to curb the menace of drug trafficking and safeguard society from the harmful effects of narcotics, Police Post Kalaroose has detained a habitual drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988,” said a police spokesperson in a media statement.
“The detenue Sajad Ahmad Lone @ Saj Pal S/O Gh Mohd Lone R/O Lastiyal, Kalaroose, District Kupwara,is involved in multiple narcotics-related cases, including FIR No. 219/2021, FIR No. 158/2022, and FIR No. 274/2023, registered at Police Station Kupwara. Based on a detailed dossier prepared by Police Post Kalaroose, his involvement in illicit drug trafficking was established, necessitating his preventive detention,” reads the statement, as per Alfaaz – The Words.
“Acting on the recommendation of District Police Kupwara, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, issued the detention order under the PIT NDPS Act, following which the accused has been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal today.The detenue was apprehended from District Ferozepur Punjab by police party from PP Kalaroose.”
“District Police Kupwara remains committed to eradicating the drug menace and ensuring a safe and drug-free society. Public cooperation is essential in this fight, and we urge citizens to report any suspicious activities related to narcotics to the nearest police station,” the statement reads further.
