Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday formally appointed Jammu and Kashmir National Conference’s senior leader Mubarak Gul as pro-tem speaker of Jammu Kashmir assembly.
Invoking powers conferred under Section 24 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, Manoj Sinha said that he appoints Mubarak Gul as protem speaker, further saying that Gul shall administer oath/affirmation to the Members of Legislative Assembly for the Union Territory of Jammu ans Kashmir.
The LG has scheduled the oath/affirmation ceremony of Members of Legislative Assembly on 21st October, 2024 in the Legislative Assembly at Srinagar.
He shall also discharge the functions of the Speaker till election of the Speaker is held.
If reports are to be believed, the former Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather is set to be elected to the post of Speaker in Jammu and Kashmir assembly.
Pro-tem speaker is a temporary speaker appointed for a limited period of time to conduct the work in Lok Sabha or in state legislatures.
