MLA Kupwara Questions Legal, Political Stature of Advisor-to-CM After Latter Convenes Review Meeting in North Kashmir District

06/01/2025

Srinagar: A review meeting convened by J&K government has triggered a controversy with MLA Kupwara Mir Muhammad Fayaz questioning the government’s approach in convening such meetings and authority of CM’s advisor.

In a post on X, formerly twitter, MLA Kupwara Mir Muhammad Fayaz, has come down heavily on authorities for undermining elected MLAs.

“Just received a text of invitation from PA to DC Kupwara that Hon Advisor and Hon Minister are convening a meeting in conference hall. I am a simple person and a grassroots worker. I have been chosen MLA by my people. And more than anytime in the past the sanctity of the institution of MLA is under threat. As long as I am the MLA I will protect the sanctity of this institution,” he said.

He also questioned the authority of advisor to CM, “May I ask the government what is the legal and political stature of the Advisor that he instructs DC who in turn instructs his PA to shoot off a text of invitation to MLAs. And a humble advice to the Hon (Chief) Minister, if you are serious about the institutional supremacy of the Assembly and restoration of statehood start respecting your fellow MLAs. There are 6 MLAs in this district. Call them. Text them. If you are serious,” Mir said.

Mir said that such review exercises were nothing more than photo sessions and hindering routine functioning of officers.

“If you want to help with snow clearance, sit in one place and monitor the operations. Please stop these photo sessions. Summoning officers means taking them away from their work. Let them do their work. Let me know where you are, and I will send the camera crew for your photo sessions. Please, do not disturb the officers,” he said. (KNO)
