Srinagar: Amid the ongoing unprecedented heatwave across the Kashmir Valley, Mirwaiz Kashmir, Maulvi Umar Farooq, has urged the government to extend the summer vacations in schools to safeguard the health and well-being of children.
Highlighting the intense and prolonged heat spell that has gripped the region over the time, Mirwaiz expressed concern over the impact of soaring temperatures on the population, particularly the young. He emphasized that the authorities should seriously consider prolonging the summer break by a few more days as a necessary measure in the face of extreme weather conditions.
“The unprecedented heatwave in Kashmir is taking a toll on everyone, especially children,” he said in an X post. “The government should seriously consider extending summer vacations by a few more days. At the same time, let us also turn to Allah ﷻ and pray for rain and relief”, further the post as per Alfaaz – The Words.
The Kashmir Valley has been witnessing record-breaking temperatures in recent days, with mercury levels soaring well above the seasonal average, making daily life increasingly difficult. The searing heat has not only disrupted routine activities but has also raised health concerns, particularly for school-going children who are vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
Calls for extending school holidays have been growing louder across the region as people grapple with the sweltering conditions, and Mirwaiz’s appeal adds significant moral weight to the ongoing public demand.
The Education Minister Sakina Itoo, is expected to announce decision on the possible extension of ongoing summer vacations, today only.
