Militant Killed, 2 Security Personnel Injured in Bandipora Gunfight

Srinagar: A militant has been killed and two security personnel injured in an exchange of gunfire between security forces and militants in Kulnar, Bazipora area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday.

News agency JKNS quoted police sources as saying that the exchange of fire took place after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area based on inputs about the presence of militants.

“During the operation, the hiding militants opened fire on the search party, leading to an exchange of fire, they said.

“One militant has been neutralized, while two security personnel sustained injuries in the initial exchange,” they said, adding “Both the security personnel were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, and their condition is said to be stable, they said.

The operation is still in progress and more reinforcements have been rushed to the area, and tight cordon remains in place.
