Lolab Drowning Incident: Social and Political Activists Express Sorrow, Demand for Fencing Around Open Water Sources

Kupwara: Various social and political activists in Lolab Kupwara have expressed deep sorrow and regret over drowning of a teenage boy in a pond here on Monday.

The local social and political activists, expressing their sympathy with the bereaved family said that they are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident, which has left the whole area in deep sorrow and melancholy.

The activists which included AIP constituency incharge Adv Dawood Bashir Bhat, JKPC constituency incharge Lolab Dr. Mudasir Akbar Shah, and others who were seen accompanying the family during evacuation of the youth to hospital, as per Alfaaz – The Words, said that they are in complete solidarity with the bereaved family in these testing times.

The activists unanimously urged the administration and authorities concerned to erect fences around open water sources as to avoid incidents of the nature in times to come.

“In these testing times, we stand in complete solidarity with the bereaved family of the teenager who lost his life in this tragedy,” said AIP leader Dawood Bashir Bhat, adding, “We nonetheless have been witnessing such incidents more often than not, and in such a scenario the authorities need to erect fences around the open water sources to avert such tragedies.”

Echoing the remarks, JKPC constituency incharge Lolab Dr Mudasir Akbar Shah said that while the family is mourning the loss, we too are equally saddened by this tragedy.

“The authorities need to give a serious look into the matter as we already have lost many precious lives in such incidents over the period of time,” Shah said, adding, “If proper fences are erected around these water sources, we may possibly see less of such tragedies.”

Meanwhile, people of the area have also urged the administration to take necessary measures as to avoid incidents of the type in future.
