Kupwara: In a notable move towards strengthening grassroots agricultural development, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kupwara, in collaboration with the Agriculture Production Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, has launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyaan (VKSA) 2025 in the district.

The campaign, a part of a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, aims to transform Indian agriculture by empowering farmers through enhanced awareness, innovation, and sustainable practices.

Scheduled from May 29 to June 12, 2025, the drive began with encouraging momentum, covering over nine villages across three key panchayats Panzgam, Reddi, and Kralpora and engaging more than 1,000 farmers in its initial phase.

The successful kickoff of the programme was largely credited to the efforts of Mr. Farooq Ahmad Mir, Agriculture Extension Officer, Panzgam, who played a vital role in mobilizing large farmer gatherings, particularly in Reddi village.

The initiative also received steadfast support from the Department of Agriculture, Kupwara.

A major highlight of the event at Reddi Chowkibal was the presence of the Worthy Joint Director, Mushroom Development, Kashmir, accompanied by the Junior Scientist, Mushroom, who addressed the assembled farmers.

They emphasized the vast potential of mushroom cultivation as a viable income-generating avenue and encouraged local adoption under the VKSA-2025 platform.

The scientific and technical outreach sessions were led by Dr. Rayees Ahmad and Dr. Firdous Raina, scientists at KVK Kupwara.
Together with their committed field teams, they conducted; Interactive farmer meetings, On-field demonstrations, and Awareness campaigns on central schemes and sustainable farming methods.

The VKSA-2025 campaign focused on several flagship agricultural themes, including; PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, Natural farming practices, PM Fasal Bima Yojana, Digital tools in agriculture, and Climate-resilient farming methods.

The initiative was met with enthusiastic participation from local farmers, Panchayati Raj Institutions, and community members, who expressed appreciation for the hands-on guidance and knowledge dissemination.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Rayees Ahmad remarked, “This campaign is not just about spreading awareness but empowering our farmers with the knowledge and tools to lead India’s agricultural growth story.”

With plans to expand the campaign to more than 150 villages in the coming days, KVK Kupwara is poised to continue its mission of building a Viksit Bharat through a Viksit Krishi.

The initial phase has laid a solid foundation for long-term agricultural reform in the region, thanks to the committed efforts of field officers like Mr. Farooq Ahmad Mir, the expertise of the KVK scientific team, and the proactive engagement of the farming community.
