Kupwara: Inhabitants of various villages in Kupwara including of Zirhama, Gujjar pati, Kawari, Laderwan and Marhama have expressed their deep resentment against the Power Development Department (PDD) over frequent power cuts.
Residents said that they are witnessing disproportionate curtailments during the winter days and are reeling under severe darkness as the condition of the electricity in these areas has gone bad to worse these days.
The residents gathered, chanting slogans “Bijli Nahi, Fees Nahi” (No Electricity, No Fees) against the PDD. “When we are not receiving electricity as per the schedule, why is the department taking fees from us,” the aggrieved residents said.
“There is no proper schedule for electricity in our areas and we don’t know when will electricity be restored and when it will be cut. They (PDD) are treating us unfairly,” the residents further said.
“As the annual examinations are ahead, in the absence of electricity, the education of our children is getting severely affected”, they said adding during these modern days, we still are being forced to use candles, lanterns and other old gadgets.
Meanwhile, the residents have urged the LG led administration as well as district administration Kupwara to address the grievance on priority.
