Kupwara: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kupwara Wednesday informed of having launched a drive against illegal poppy cultivation across different parts of the north Kashmir district.
“In a continued effort to combat the growing threat of drug abuse, Kupwara Police, acting on credible information, launched a special drive against illegal poppy cultivation. The operation was carried out in coordination with teams from the Revenue and Excise Departments in the villages of Panzgam and Bhatpora,” said a Spokesperson in a media statement.
The joint operation, as per the statement according to Alfaaz – The Words, led to the destruction of a large area of illegally cultivated poppy at multiple locations in Kupwara. “In connection with this, an FIR No. 43/2025 under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kralpora, and further investigation is underway.”
“The local residents have welcomed the swift action and expressed support for continued efforts in nearby areas. Kupwara Police have urged the public to actively cooperate and assist in the ongoing fight against drug abuse,” reads the statement.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Gh Jeelani Wani, has in the meantime reaffirmed the department’s firm resolve to eliminate the drug menace. He called on the public to join hands with the police in their mission to create a drug-free society.
