Kupwara: The Kupwara Police Cricket Tournament for Women concluded on Saturday with a thrilling final match held at the Sports Ground, DPL Kupwara, as part of the Civic Action Programme-2024.
The tournament, which commenced on 11th July 2024, featured eight women’s teams from across District Kupwara and served as an empowering platform for young female athletes to showcase their talent and encourage greater participation in sports.
The concluding ceremony witnessed presence of Chief Guest Shobhit Saksena, IPS, SSP Kupwara, who presided over the event and presented trophies and cash prizes to the winning and runner-up teams.
The ceremony also recognized the efforts of the players, officials from District Youth Sports, commentators, and organizers from DPL.
SSP Kupwara, in his address, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting women’s sports and providing opportunities for young female athletes to excel.
The final match witnessed Growth Sports Academy emerging victorious over Lolab Stars by 7 wickets, successfully chasing a target of 105 runs in 10 overs. Aiman Bashir was the standout performer of the match, scoring 57 runs and taking 2 crucial wickets, earning her the Player of the Match title. Her remarkable performance throughout the tournament, amassing 257 runs and taking 5 wickets, also earned her the Player of the Tournament award.
The winners were awarded a cash prize of ₹25,000 and a trophy, while the runner-ups received a cash prize of ₹15,000 and a trophy. The event was also attended by Gh Mohd Bhat, JKPS, Addl SP Kupwara, Syed Mujahid-ul-Haq, JKPS, DySP DAR Kupwara, along with other officers and officials from the District Police and District Youth Sports and Services, as per a statement issued to Alfaaz – The Words.
The Kupwara Police Cricket Tournament for Women was held for the first time and marks a significant step towards promoting sports culture among women in the district and highlights the commitment of the Kupwara Police to support and encourage young female talent.
