Srinagar: In the ongoing gunfight in the Khanyar area of Srinagar, heavy exchange of fire continue with no militants killed so far while one CRPF trooper has been injured and has been shifted to the hospital for treatment.

News agency KDC quoted a top police officer as saying that that no militants have been killed while heavy firing is ongoing from both sides, adding there are no reports of casualties among militants, but one CRPF trooper has been injured and shifted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, has also reached the encounter spot to take a firsthand account of the operation.

Earlier, following a tip about the presence of militants, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Thung Mohalla of Khanyar.

As the security forces proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired on the party, leading to an encounter.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, Usman, is believed to be trapped in the encounter.

Moreover, security forces in a brief shootout killed two foreign militants in the Shangus forests of Anantnag district this afternoon in a brief shootout.
