Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Conference chief and MLA Handwara, called Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) chargesheet against former Governor Satya Pal Malik, a reckoning for systematic vilification of Kashmiris during latter’s contentious tenure.

The CBI filed the chargesheet against Malik and five others on Thursday, alleging corruption and procedural violations in the awarding of contracts for Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project.

Reacting to the development, Lone wrote in an ‘X’ (previously Twitter) post, “While I feel bad for Ex Governor Satyapal Malik, given that he is ill. But it also true that he heralded the most vicious and slanderous campaign against the Kashmiris, branding every Kashmiri as a corrupt soul.”

“There is not a single TV Channel where he did not voice his negative opinion about Kashmiris, about carpets, about three storeyed Kashmiri residences. He harboured a contemptuous hatred for Kashmiris. And he was a liar. He lied through his teeth. That he has now been booked under a corruption case is Karma.”

“He was the author of the crackdown in 2019. Inshallah all those who have slandered Kashmiris, jailed them, ordered their killings will face Karma (sic.),” the post reads.

Lone’s remarks reference Malik’s tenure as Jammu and Kashmir Governor during which the latter frequently accused Kashmiris of corruption in televised interviews, mocked local culture, and defended the developments post abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
