Srinagar: In a significant political development, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Conference Sajad Gani Lone is likely to contest assembly elections from Langate segment and Er. Rashid’s brother Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh from Langate seat.
People in the knowhow of things said that, Peoples’ Conference has narrowed down on the name of incumbent Chief to contest from Kupwara seat. “A formal announcement regarding the same is expected shortly,” they said.
Lone, if announced, will be contesting against JKNC Provincial President Kashmir Nasir Aslam Wani, Apni Party’s Mohammad Amin Bhat and PDP’s Fayaz Ahmad Mir.
AIP is however yet to announce its candidate from the segment.
Sajad Gani, who contested unsuccessfully from the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat recently, is likely to reshape the political landscape in the coveted segment.
In a related development, Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh, brother of sitting MP Er. Rashid, is likely to make formal entry into active politics with candidacy on the Langate segment.
The grapevine has got more traction with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, confirming Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh’s voluntary retirement from his job in Education Department.
Khursheed will be up against JKPC’s Irfan Pandithpuri besides a host of other political figures.
