J&K Judicial Academy Launches Two-Week Training Course for Legal Assistants of UT Ladakh

Jammu: The J&K Judicial Academy on Monday commenced a Two-Week Training Course for Legal Assistants of the Union Territory of Ladakh, aimed at strengthening the legal understanding, administrative competence, and professional capacity of officers serving across various departments of the Ladakh UT Administration. The programme is scheduled to run from December 1 to December 12, 2025, at the Academy in Jammu.

The training has been organised under the patronage of Honโ€™ble Justice Arun Palli, Hon’ble the Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (Patron-in-Chief, J&K Judicial Academy), and under the guidance of the Honโ€™ble Chairperson and Honโ€™ble Members of the Governing Committee for the J&K Judicial Academy.

The inaugural day featured a series of intensive and interactive academic sessions led by eminent academicians and legal experts.

The First Session was conducted by Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Sharma, Former Head, Department of Law & Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Jammu, and Former State Information Commissioner, J&K. He delivered a detailed lecture on the Constitutional Scheme of Governance and the Role of the UT Administration, highlighting fundamental principles of Indian constitutionalism, the constitutional responsibilities of administrative officers, and the need for ethical governance and legal compliance in public administration.

The Second Session was led by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Gupta, Former Director, The Law School, University of Jammu, who discussed Separation of Powers, Rule of Law, and the Role and Duties of Law Officers. He offered insights into effective legal scrutiny, the drafting of administrative notes, and the significance of maintaining objectivity and legality in administrative decision-making.

The Third Session, also conducted by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Gupta, was a practical workshop on Drafting a Legal Note along with a Case Study on Delegation of Powers. Participants engaged in hands-on drafting exercises and interactive discussions intended to enhance clarity, precision, and analytical reasoning in handling official legal matters.

The day-long proceedings were conducted by Naseer Ahmad Dar, Director, J&K Judicial Academy, who moderated the inaugural sessions of the Two-Week Training Course.

The programme is expected to play a significant role in equipping the Legal Assistants of UT Ladakh with refined legal and administrative skills essential for effective governance and institutional functioning.
