Srinagar: The budget session of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly is likely to be held in two parts- the first before the holy month of Ramadan and the second after Eid-ul-Fitr, sources said.
News agency KNO quoted sources as saying that the NC-led government is considering holding the budget session in two phases. โIf all goes as per plan, the first part of the session will be held before the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. With the commencement of Ramadan, the Assembly will go on a month-long recess, after which the session will resume following Eid-ul-Fitr,โ sources disclosed, adding that the government is currently contemplating the timetable along these lines.
Sources privy to the development said the government is seriously considering recommending convening the session from the first week of February 2026.
โAs per the proposal being discussed, the Assembly would go for a month-long recess from February 18 or 19. The session will then resume after Eid-ul-Fitr,โ they said.
According to sources, the issue is likely to be decided in the next cabinet meeting, which will be held after the return of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from abroad.
In that meeting, the cabinet is expected to make a recommendation to the Lieutenant Governor for convening the Assembly to hold the budget session.
It is worthwhile to mention that the Finance Department had started preparations for the 2026โ27 budget in October 2025 by asking departments to submit budget estimates for the next fiscal year and revised estimates for the current fiscal.
The Finance Department has also completed budget discussions with all departments.
The budget for 2025โ26 was presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the J&K Assembly on March 07, 2025.
